Irresponsible Journalism in the United Kingdom
Margaret Watson
All we ever hear about is journalist and their editors bellowing on and on about their human rights under article 10 of the EU Convention of Human Rights, to publish what ever they like about innocent homicide victims. Such so called professional journalist and their editors, will not let the facts get in the way of what they see as a great story and lets fact it, these so called journalist and their editors are onlt too aware of the (fact) families of innocent homicide victims have no legal standing under United Kingdom's Defamation Legislation, so they can and do disseminate false information to their readers in the clear knowledge families of homicide victims have no legal right to formally challeng their published lies by way of taking civil action for defamation of the deceased. Yet they are the very ones who scream like pigs going to be slaughtered when families of homicide victims dare expose their vile lies. Lets take a closer look at article 10 of the EU Convention - something neither the EU Commissioner of Human Rights or the UK Government what to do! Article 10 section 2 "The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subjected to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interest of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or rights of others" New lets look at the office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (UN) declaration of Human rights - Article 12 "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks". Why are irresponible journalist and their editors being allowed to get awy with unjustly defiling the good name and reputation of innocent homicide victims with impunity by the EU Court of Human Rights and by the UK Government?

World Press Freedom Day
More reporters are currently imprisoned in Turkey than in any other country in the world. Only a matter of weeks ago lawyers failed to persuade a Turkish court to release a 76-year-old journalist from a Turkish internet news station.
World Press Freedom Day on Friday May 3, 2013 is being marked in Britain by a rally to highlight the dangers facing journalists in Turkey and in this podcast, Nicholas Jones speaks to Barry White, Organiser at the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom, and Sam Bamford, the TUC's policy officer for Eastern Europe and Africa about the importance of a campaign to highlight international press freedom.
The World Press Freedom Day rally is being staged by the National Union of Journalists at the NUJ head office, Gray’s Inn Road, London WC1 on Thursday May 2, 6pm-8pm.

The UK launch of a 'European Citizens' Initiative' calling for EU rules against concentration of media power will take place on Thursday March 21 from 11:00am – 12:30pm in Committee Room 4A at the House of Lords, London. Guest speakers will include actor and activist Hugh Grant (pictured), media consultant Claire Enders, Professor Steven Barnett, Barry McCall (President of the NUJ) and Marc Gruber (Director of the European Federation of Journalists).
A European Citizens' Initiative is an official petition, like a Downing Street petition. If it succeeds in gathering a million signatures across the EU, the Commission is obliged to respond.
This petition calls for the EU to act to protect media pluralism and press freedom.

MEDIA MANIFESTO
DATELINE: 26/3/10
The media’s job is to inform and entertain us but we rely on them too to tell us what our rulers and representatives are up to. In the run-up to the Iraq war the government used spin and disinformation in the media to create panic and mislead people. The truth is coming out now, but we need stronger, more independent media to be able to scrutinise governments and make informed choices.
